To the Reader,
This blog focuses on the preventive approach to dentistry. India is historically famous for its Ayurvedic practices and utilizing mother nature’s gifts as medications. As we have progressed, we have forgotten these practices.
In today’s time, the importance of health falls way behind the yearly career goals. In the rat race, we neglect our health and miss out on our regular dental checks. The statistics on the WHO website show that oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people. Untreated dental cavities in permanent teeth are the most common health condition stated by the Global Burden of Disease Index 2017. Another finding was that more than 530 million children suffer from dental caries of primary teeth. These numbers are shocking and scary enough to invoke awareness. Despite, this dental neglect is witnessed frequently among the masses.
Many adults would say that dental treatments being costly was the reason for delayed treatments. In my opinion, it is the other way round as simple procedures including preventive treatment plans are not expensive. Contrarily the advanced and corrective treatments cost a dime. Following the treatment protocol in the initial stages, the progression of the disease stops and causes minimum damage to the surrounding tissues.
There are numerous oral hygiene and preventive practices for children and adults if they consider taking 10 minutes out of their day towards their oral health. Awareness about oral hygiene would thus help the individual's holistic health.
